This Marrakech to Tangier tour starts with an early pick-up from the hotel. Leaving the red plains of Al Haouz and the medina of Marrakech behind us, we climb up in the High Atlas Mountains to reach the highest pass of Tizi n'Tichka at 2260 meters. Along the journey, you can observe the Amazigh life as we pass adobe Berber villages, terraced fields, and beautiful countryside.
We will stop for a photo break from the pass before visiting the ksar of Ait Benhaddou, a fortified stronghold on the old salt caravan road to Timbuktu. It is also a favorite filming location; many movies have been shot here, including Gladiator, The Mummy, and Lawrence of Arabia.
After a lunch break, we continue to Ouarzazate, the Hollywood of Africa, a name well-earned for the numerous movies shot there. We then drive through the Skoura Palm Groves, where we can stop to visit the Kasbah Amridil and Kelaat M'gouna, the Valley of the Roses, and the road of a Thousand Kasbahs to reach the Dades Gorge. Accommodation with dinner and breakfast in a traditional guesthouse.
After breakfast, we will leave this stunning gorge to explore another further down the valley. In Tinghir, we will take the road to the Todra Gorge, a popular destination for international rock climbers. The gorge features a vertical cliff that rises 300 meters, with a crystalline glacial river flowing through it. This pink-tinted canyon, shaped by glacial activity, is only 10 meters wide at its narrowest point. You can often see nomads with donkeys filling up water containers.
After a lunch break here, we continue south, passing through palm groves and Berber villages with adobe kasbahs until the landscape changes and the Sahara sands welcome us to the Erg Chebbi dunes and Merzouga. After a welcome mint tea, we will enjoy the sun setting on a camel ride across the dunes to our nomadic desert camp, where you will enjoy dinner and local music under a star-filled sky.
One of the most peaceful times of the day is just before sunrise. Your camel guide will wake you up early in the morning, and you will have the opportunity to witness perhaps the most memorable dawn of your life. How the light changes as the sun rises can be tremendous. You will then have breakfast and ride your camel back to the hotel.
Our journey continues as we travel to Fes, passing through Erfoud, Aoufous, and Errachidia along the magnificent Ziz Valley, which has been carved through volcanic rock. We then traverse the Tizi n'Talghemt pass to reach Midelt, where we will stop for lunch and enjoy a refreshing glass of mint tea.
From there, we are in the Middle Atlas, home to the great cedar forests and the indigenous Barbary monkeys in Azrou. They are fun to watch and often steal food from passing cars. Then we drive to Ifrane, known as Little Switzerland, because of its alpine-style architecture. We will stop for a picture and coffee before we arrive in the Imperial City and ancient Medina of Fes. Accommodation will be in a typical riad with breakfast.
After breakfast, we will explore the spiritual city of Fes. We'll begin our historical and cultural tour by wandering through the Ancient Medina, where you might easily get lost in its labyrinthine alleys. One of our stops will be the famous University of Al-Quarraouine, recognized as the oldest existing degree-granting university in the world.
We will also visit the Bouanania Madrassa, which plays a significant role in teaching the Quran. We will explore the magnificent Chaouara tannery and the Nejjarine fountain, see the seven gates of the Royal Palace and the Mellah, also known as the Jewish Quarter, and visit the local souks and artisan area.
After lunch, we take the road to the Roman ruins of Volubilis for another cultural tour of ancient lifestyles with massive columns and intricate mosaics. Heading north, we drive across the picturesque countryside full of wildflowers and rolling fields to reach the rugged mountains of the Rif and the hidden medina of Chefchaouen. Overnight in a riad with breakfast.
In the morning, you can wander around this charming blue city and discover its hidden streets, blue doors, and the Spanish mosque. It has many interesting artisan shops, ideal for last-minute gifts and amazing photos.
After lunch, we take the road north of Morocco to Tangier, where the five-day tour finishes. We will then drop you off at your accommodation, airport, or Tangier port.

"My 5-day Marrakech to Tangier tour has just concluded, surpassing my initial expectations. My driver, Idir, was an exceptional tour guide, and it was so great learning about the different parts of the country from him. A night in the Sahara was the highlight, but not far behind was the walking tour in Fes, the Kasbah tour in the desert, and exploring Chefchaouen on the final night.
